This lower level was constructed to define different areas without building additional walls or installing additional doors.
A kitchenette and bar area was built to allow easy access to snacks and drinks while playing games or cards or watching a movie. The kitchen area is highlighted by beautiful cabinetry with built-in lighting.
The children were also given an area to play that is separate from the movie area.
An egress window, which meets town code requirements for an approved fire escape, was installed in the kitchenette area to add natural light, and accent the crown molding on top of the cabinets. For additional light, fixtures were mounted with moveable eyes in order to direct the light wherever desired as well.
The kitchenette includes a full size refrigerator and an under-the-counter wine cooler. The laminate floor wraps around the side of the bar to allow space for 3 to 4 stools, which face the egress window. A powder room was also added off the playroom for convenience.
This beautiful Brighton basement also includes a cinema room, which is convenient for watching the big game with friends or to create the perfect atmosphere for family movie night.
We feel the investment has added much value to our home and has given us a new space to use in the winter months when we are mostly inside. I’m already thinking of a summer space project.
My son has had his mends over several times and it is considered the new “hang out”. My daughter has transformed her space into a school-she loves the doors Hans made for the water meter that we had painted with blackboard paint.
And speaking of Hans-as foreman on the job, he handled everything in an extremely professional manner. Hans, Brett, Nate, and Joe were prompt, courteous and neat. They couldn’t do enough and satisfied all my requests. Hans’ craftsmanship and woodworking abilities are apparent in the trim, closet and column work. He was even available when he was off-duty, when I called him at home one night in a panic, because the water was not flowing into my washing machine. He talked me through the possible reasons and eventually solved the puzzle.
I cannot thank you enough for a smooth two months of construction, and a beautiful result.
