- Get Inspired!
We always tell our clients to engross themselves in the latest and greatest home magazine. Use sticky notes to tag photos you like. Or if you prefer to be online, Pinterest and Houzz are great resources that allow you to create a ‘board’ or ‘idea book’ that capture your favorite spaces and layouts. Use other renovations to help you create yours.
- Think Long Term:
Avoid picking trendy colors and materials for your home renovation. People often forget that trendy means that it is short term. You want your renovation to stand the test of time; you are not going to want to redo it in 5 years from now.
- Use Quality Materials:
One of the biggest mistakes people make when doing a renovation is that they try to save money on materials. If you’re going to do a renovation, do it right the first time or don’t do it at all. The bottom line is that you’re going to get what you pay for.
- Function First:
Think about the layout for your renovation and how it will best fit you and your family’s lifestyle. Imagine yourself in your new space and walk yourself through your daily routine. How does it flow? Are you running into any major issues or concerns?
- Stay True to Your Home:
If you live in a traditional brick home, don’t turn your kitchen into stark white contemporary or cottage chic. It wouldn’t be authentic.
- Plan, Plan, PLAN!
Before you break ground and start gutting your space, make sure you have every detail planned out from the faucet fixture to the placement of the plumbing lines. You don’t want to run into any surprises or spend extra money that could’ve been saved by planning ahead. Here at Norbut Renovations, we specialize in design/plan renovations.
- Trust the Professionals:
We all have something were good at. Doctors are great at being doctors. Chefs are great at being chefs. Point being, trust the professionals to do their job and to guide you through your home renovation. It will bring you ease and confidence that everything is going to run smoothly and bring you the end results of your dreams!
